Boutique Hotel Ses Bruixes

Ses Bruixes boutique Hotel is located in a house whose history dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, when land belonging to the church was developed in order to raise money and reform the church of Santa María, forming Calle San Fernando.

Don Francisco de la Torra, a ship's captain, had the house at number 26 built in 1811. It was one of the few houses in the neighbourhood with a tower so that he could have views over the port and its mouth and see the ships arriving in Mahón.

Within less than a year the house passed into the hands of the Mercadal family. Several generations lived in the house for a century, until in 1911, following the crash of the Bank of Mahón, they were forced to sell it.

Don Sebastián Sapiña Femenías bought the house and commissioned his cousin Don Francesc Femenías Fàbregues, Minorca's first architect and designer of Minorca's emblematic modernist buildings. The architect Femenías directed the renovation and built the modernist dining room, connected the service area with the house through a corridor, dressed the patio with arches and balustrades and added ornamental details such as the frieze of flower tiles and the cornices on the façade.

The Sapiña family lived in the house for another 100 years, its last inhabitant being Ms. Cecilia Sapiña, until the 1990s when Nando Pons, an architect, bought the house, which was in ruins, renovated it and installed the ARU Arquitectura studio inside it.

In 2014, after a year of renovation, the house was converted into the Boutique Hotel Ses Bruixes, the first space to form part of the Jardí de ses Bruixes Collection.
